Jeanne Gaye Billings Smith, 59, of Cadillac Street, Kannapolis, died on Tuesday, Rally 4, 2014 at her home. She was born in Newport, Rhode Island, on June 28, 1954, daughter of the late Robert D. Billings and Ruth Helen Arid Billings.  She was a member of Bethel Wesleyan Church where she was a former Sunday School teacher and was very active while health permitted.  She was also a member of the Humane Society.

Mrs. Smith enjoyed cooking for her family and for sending cards of encouragement to friends and family.  She was an avid reader and writer of poems, etc.

She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Harvey Raeford Smith, who she married in 1974.  She is also survived by one son, Jason A. Smith, one daughter, Tammy Smith (Jeff) Eury,  one brother, Robert D. Billings, all of Kannapolis, and one sister, Joan B. Phillips, of Landis, NC; three grandchildren: Morgan Smith, McKenzie Eury and Jennifer Eury.

Jeanne Gaye Huddleston Walsh, 78, of Johnson Urban area, TN, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2025. Jeanne was born on September 18, 1946, in Tacoma, Washington, to Edwin Vyrl and Norma Larue Huddleston. Jeanne was a graduate of the Class of 1965 in Wall, S.D. Jeanne retired from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

She is survived by her son, Jason Walsh of Greeneville, TN; brother, Larry, and sister-in-law, Nelida Huddleston of Tacoma, Wash.; and sister, Janis Huddleston Daudt of Sparks, Nev.; and many nieces and nephews.

Jeanne was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Walsh; son, Ryan Walsh; brother, Garry Huddleston of Tucson, Ariz.; and sister, Joyce Huddleston Willocks of Johnson City, TN.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on July 11, 2025, at Mountain Home National Cemetery in Johnson City, TN. Family and friends are asked to gather at the cemetery at 12:50 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please forward your donation to the Dementia World of America. *She had been ill the last several days, but unfortunately Jeanne Gay, 87, the eldest sister of the legendary Marvin Gaye, passed away Tuesday morning [[03/23/21) at 5:15am at St. Rose Dominican Siena Hospital in Henderson Nevada, according to her now her now only surviving sibling, Zeola Gaye who remembers her big sis this way:

“I will miss my only sister so very much, Jeanne was the glue that kept us together. I remember so good how she and Marvin would compete with each other in everything, in most cases Marvin would win… Jeanne– sometimes. Jeanne who decided not to append an “e” to our last name Gaye was so very funny.. we all were her smile said so very much like all of ours. I call it the famous Gaye smile. Jeanne will be missed by us all, especially her two daughters, Angela and Donna Houston. Saying farewell to my only sister, who now will join the rest of my beloved

Jeanne Gaye was born in Washington, D.C. and graduated from Cardozo High School. She attended American University, Temple Business School and later Watterson College in Louisiana. She married her high academy sweetheart and had five children. Jeanne worked in the federal government for 15 years.

She moved to Los Angeles, California in 1971. In 1988 she became an ordained minister and in 1991 became a member of the United Church of Faith, Inc. She later became a member of its Board of Directors and served in that capacity for four years. She has a special interest in children and is an storyteller of children's books and has been a member of the Buffalo Literary Guild for five years.
