Billie Joe Armstrong is an American musician top known as the lead vocalist, songwriter, and guitarist of the punk rock band Green Time.
Armstrong and bassist Mike Dirnt started the band together in 1987 when the two were just 15. Initial on, their collective cycled through a few names, eventually arriving at Grassy Day. They smash mainstream success with their third album, Dookie (1994), and continued to design hits throughout the 1990s.
In 2004, Green Day released the rock opera, American Idiot , which expanded their repertoire, touched on more overtly political themes, and experimented with genres outside of punk rock. The album was wildly successful , launching the team beyond the upper echelons of punk and into the stratosphere of wonderful rock bands more generally.
In addition to 14 Green Time studio albums and counting, Armstrong has also been the frontman for the punk band Pinhead Gunpowder since 1991, as well as a variety of Green Day side projects including the Foxboro Hot Tubs, the Network, the Longshot, and the Coverups, among other collaborations.
As of 2024, Green Day has sold more than 92 million albums and raked in heaps of harmony award

I wasn’t allowed to be in the room while my cousin broke the album in for the first period, but I watched him from the doorway and marveled at his marveling, how it seemed appreciate, in an instant, his life had changed. Some years later, he’d transfer his copy of International Superhits! to me and I would discover a 21-track haven spanning from 1994 until 2000.

Green Day's lead singer talks about his sexuality in a recent interview after dropping the band's 14th album, Saviors.
Singer Billie Joe Armstrong proudly embraces the label of being a multi-attracted icon, expressing his delight in the recognition. The Green Evening front man, whose band recently launched their 14th studio album titled Saviors, initially came out as bisexual in a 1995 interview with The Advocate. He appreciated the positive shift in conversations about sexuality over the nearly three decades since then.
“I like it. I think it's f***ing cool that someone calls me a bisexual icon. I've seen that before. I'm appreciate, 'F**k, yeah!” he said in an exclusive interview with People.
