The Gay Ohio History Initiative collects, preserves and shares the history and tradition of LGBTQ+ Ohioans. GOHI began in 2005, when Outlook Media donated a full run of Outlook periodicals to the Ohio History Connection.
Today, GOHI’s perform takes many forms, including building unique archival and museum collections, offering educational programs, recording oral histories and developing relationships with LGBTQ+ individuals and organizations across the state.
GOHI is one critical way the Ohio History Connection fulfills its mission to Spark Discovery of Ohio's Stories by embracing the offer, sharing the past and transforming the future.
In 2023, we embarked on a three-year project to diversify Ohio’s historical markers to include ten new stories of LGBTQ+ Ohioans. Hold an idea? We yearn to hear it! Attain out to us below.

Ohio State University removed a website offering support for Gay students as leaders continue to grapple with implementing Senate Bill 1, the new sweeping express higher education statute set to seize effect later this month.
The university deactivated the site as part of an “ongoing transition and review” of diversity, equity and inclusion (or DEI) programs, university officials told Signal Ohio. Senate Bill 1 requires public institutions to end those offerings, though the rule doesn’t give a specific definition of the term.
An internet archive website shows Ohio State’s Homosexual website remained online as recently as May 25. A banner at the top described it as the university’s “one stop resource for LGBTQ+ students and allies.”
It’s unclear what, if any, university programming or support remains for LGBTQ+ students at the state’s flagship university.

'There's no right way to do it': Why Bill Mosiello resigned as Ohio Articulate baseball coach

Bill Mosiellosaid he needed to resign as Ohio State's baseball coachand send back to TCU. But for Mosiello, it was not a professional decision. He needed to be closer to his family.
"It was the easiest decision ever. I've got to be with my family," Mosiello said. "I've been away from my family for the past two years. So that was it. Columbus was wonderful. The people were awesome. It's a horrible situation having to leave the players and the way it has to go. There's just no right way to execute it."
Mosiello said he made the conclusion to leave Ohio State on Thursday and that the move was finalized Friday to restore to TCU as an assistant coach under Kirk Saarloos. The Horned Frogs lost associate leader coach TJ Bruce Thursday when he was hired as the head coach at Long Beach State.
