“Straight Man Is Not Gonna Approve That”: After Caleb Williams’ Cruel Response, Shannon Sharpe Counters Criticism With a Scathing Rebuke

Can someone with painted nails be a successful NFL player? Initially, Caleb Williams grabbed the headlines for being the 2024 NFL Draft’s consensus No. 1 overall pick. But his fashion choices have brought in criticism. A big chunk of NFL fans cannot spot how or why the player would want to paint his nails or use a pink phone case. But the bigger question is: Does it matter?

While Williams has shared his clarification on the issue, he launch support from Shannon Sharpe. In the YouTube show ‘Nightcap’ along with Chad ‘Ochocinco’ Johnson, Sharpe stated, “In order to emasculate you or insinuate or even flat-out call you, they understand referring to straight man is a derogatory term. I don’t care how accepted it is being gay, queer, LBGTQ, transsexual, it does not matter.”

“A vertical man will never ever receive being called gay, queer, zesty, fruity, whatever as a compliment. So this notion that imply, you’ve made it that express, you’ve ascended to the uppermost, a straight man is not gonna accept that.”

Trolls Call Caleb Williams “Gay” for Painting His Nails

Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams was targeted by online trolls after posting photos of himself on social media with his fingernails painted blue.

The photos, posted to Williams’ Instagram account, also show him at a formal event wearing a black suit and T-shirt, with what appears to be a light flower tucked in his hair.

Most of the comments on Instagram were positive — with followers writing things like “GQ,” a reference to the men’s fashion magazine, “NAUGHHHHHHTY,” or simply dropping two flame emojis.

However, commenters on X were decidedly more upset by Williams’ painted fingernails, disparaging the second-year quarterback as “gay,” overly feminine, and even suggesting he was transgender and planning to transition, often using homophobic slurs or labels to refer to last year’s No. 1 overall draft pick.

“This guy is going to flame out so badly. He’s supposed to be a chief of men, not a metrosexual pansy,” wrote one user.

“So gay,” wrote another.

“Caleb is so fucking feminine. 100% he is queer
